Receiving an autism diagnosis is often a pivotal moment in someone’s life. You may experience a variety of feelings—relief, surprise, confusion, or even more complex emotions. Our post-diagnostic sessions provide a space to reflect on your autism diagnosis and the feelings it evokes.
We are committed to offering neuroaffirmative support and will never promote or endorse any methods that aim to change or mask a person's neurodiversity.
Neuroaffirming practice recognizes the value, strengths, and importance of different ways of thinking and approaching the world, as well as the significant contributions of neurodiversity. This blog by Raelene Dundon effectively outlines some principles of neuro-affirmative support. Although it was initially written for those involved with young people, the insights are applicable to our work across all stages of life, including considerations around autism diagnosis. We've also shared some thoughts about how our clinical psychologists deliver neuroaffirming care in our own blog.
