We provide comprehensive assessments for ADHD for late teens and adults. We know that seeking an ADHD assessment can be a big decision, and we are here to answer any questions that you might have. We are a caring, neuroaffirmative practice, and will do all that we can to ensure our assessment process is supportive and beneficial for you, whatever the outcome.
Our assessments are completed as a team. Your assessment will be undertaken by at least one of our experienced, HCPC-registered clinicians and the assessment information will be reviewed by our clinical team before a diagnostic decision is reached.
If possible, our assessment will include somebody who knows you well. Ideally this will be someone who knew you in childhood (such as a parent) as well as someone who knows you well now. It helps if you have evidence from childhood, such as school reports but if this isn't possible, then we can still go ahead.
Our assessments can be completed in person or online. Where in person is preferred, we use clinical spaces in central Scotland, Glasgow, and Edinburgh for these meetings. We will discuss which location is preferable to you when you get in touch.
It may be possible to complete your assessment and feedback in the same day in some instances.
Our assessment process has been designed with reference to NICE guidance on ADHD assessment and the Adult ADHD Assessment Quality Assurance Standard (AQAS). The assessment involves the steps below:
1. Pre-screening questionnaires: We will send you a pack of questionnaires and ask you to complete them and return to us before we meet with you.
2. Clinical Interview: We will use a standardised, structured clinical interview, such as the ACE or ACE+ to complete a clinical interview with you and ideally someone who knows you well. This will take around two hours.
3. Online task (optional): You will have the option to complete an online test that is designed to objectively measure ADHD symptoms. Assessments can be completed without this measure, but our experience is that this information is helpful.
4. Written report and feedback session: We provide you with a high quality professional report that you can share with those involved in your care or your day to day life, e.g. GP and college/university or workplace. We will have a one hour feedback session with you, where we will support you to understand the diagnosis and the report and have the opportunity to ask questions.
We suggest booking an optional pre-screen appointment ahead of your comprehensive assessment. This 1 hour online session costs £180, which will be deducted from your full assessment cost should you go ahead with the full assessment. In this session we complete brief screening measures and have a discussion about the reasons you are seeking assessment. This is intended as a space to ask questions and confirm that you would like to go ahead.
We are not a prescribing service so cannot advise on or provide medication. Should you be interested in medication, you will need to take your assessment report to a discussion with a psychiatrist.
We are aware that some privately diagnosed individuals are required by the NHS to be re-assessed by the NHS if they opt to access NHS support (i.e. medication or therapy). If you wish to access treatment from the NHS after a private diagnosis, you will need to ask your GP if they accept what is called a ‘Shared Care Agreement’. Many NHS services recognise a private diagnosis, however there are some that do not.
We provide a very high-quality assessments and use gold standard diagnostic tools and procedures. All of our practitioners are registered Practitioner Psychologists registered with the Health Care Professions Council. Information for the assessment is obtained from multiple sources including interview and observation using structured assessment tools and drawing on informant information. We provide a comprehensive report for you to share with your GP and relevant others (e.g. workplace).
We offer post-diagnostic support or therapy following an ADHD diagnosis if you wish to continue your private healthcare journey.
An ADHD assessment costs £1,600. If you undertake an optional pre-screen appointment, this will be deducted from the cost of your assessment.
A combined autism and ADHD assessment costs £2,750.
